# Quickstart (Terraform)

> Order a NEO Lite VM with the Biznet GIO Terraform provider

From zero to a running NEO Lite VM in about five minutes.

## Prerequisites

* [Terraform](https://developer.hashicorp.com/terraform/install) ≥ 1.0
* A [Biznet GIO](https://biznetgio.com) account
* An API token - see [Authentication](/authentication)

## Get started

<Steps>
  <Step title="Export your API token">
    The provider reads credentials from environment variables, so no provider block is required:

    ```bash theme={null}
    export BIZNETGIO_API_KEY="<your-token>"
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the configuration">
    Create `main.tf`:

    ```hcl theme={null}
    terraform {
      required_providers {
        biznetgio = {
          source = "registry.terraform.io/shirasakaren/biznetgio"
        }
      }
    }
    provider "biznetgio" {}
    data "biznetgio_neolite_products" "all" {}
    data "biznetgio_neolite_os_list" "ubuntu" {
      product_id = data.biznetgio_neolite_products.all.products[0].product_id
    }
    resource "biznetgio_neolite_keypair" "main" {
      name = "neo-lite-key"
    }
    resource "biznetgio_neolite_vm" "main" {
      ssh_and_console_user = "adminuser"
      console_password     = "s3cretP4ssw0rd"
      vm_name              = "neo-lite-1"
      product_id           = data.biznetgio_neolite_products.all.products[0].product_id
      select_os            = data.biznetgio_neolite_os_list.ubuntu.oss[0].name
      keypair_id           = biznetgio_neolite_keypair.main.keypair_id
      cycle                = "m"
    }
    output "vm_status" {
      value = biznetgio_neolite_vm.main.status
    }
    ```

    `products[0]` and `oss[0]` take whichever product and OS the API happens to list first - **not necessarily the cheapest or smallest one.** This quickstart uses them so you have something that runs in one copy-paste, but before you leave this as-is on an account you care about the cost of, read [Understanding the product catalog](/products/overview) and replace `[0]` with a filter for the exact package (for example the cheapest NEO Lite tier, `XS 1.1`) and OS you actually want - see the [NEO Lite catalog](/products/neolite) for the full pricing table and a copy-paste filter.

    <Warning>
      This step places a real order at whatever price the first-listed product happens to be. If you want to guarantee the lowest cost before running `terraform apply`, do the filtering in [Picking a specific package](/products/neolite#worked-example-picking-xs-1-1-for-the-lowest-cost) first.
    </Warning>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply">
    ```bash theme={null}
    terraform init
    terraform plan
    terraform apply
    ```

    Confirm the plan with `yes`. Creating the VM places a real order on your account and typically takes 1-5 minutes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify">
    ```bash theme={null}
    terraform output vm_status
    ```

    You should see `"Active"`. Your VM is also visible under NEO Lite in the [portal](https://portal.biznetgio.com).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Clean up">
    ```bash theme={null}
    terraform destroy
    ```

    Destroying the VM resource deletes the server (`DELETE /neolites/{account_id}`).
  </Step>
</Steps>
